Laser Facial Rejuvenation
Men and women of all ages are currently seeking better alternatives to maintaining healthy, youthful skin. Medical laser and intense pulsed light technology has evolved to provide non-invasive, "no down time" treatments for certain benign skin conditions. If you suffer from broken or raised capillaries/rosy cheeks, spider veins, birthmarks, portwine stains, Rosacea, or pigmented lesions such as age spots, sun spots and uneven pigmentation, laser skin treatments can provide the safe and effective alternative you have been looking for. Enjoy a more youthful appearance with skin rejuvenation.

What does treatment involve?
Light safely passes through the outermost layers of skin in search of the targeted vascular or pigmented lesions. Without damaging the surrounding skin, the laser's intense light is absorbed by the targeted lesion. The light energy is then converted to heat and this initiates the process of eliminating the lesion. The treated lesion will gradually fade or diminish. In many cases, smaller vessels or pigmentation spots are eliminated in one to two treatments. Medium or larger vessels may take additional treatments.

Laser treatment can be utilized for small facial areas or for the entire face. Recently, full-face treatments have become increasingly popular. Many people suffer from larger broken capillaries on their nose and cheeks and will have medium and smaller vessels on other facial areas. A full-face treatment will improve the overall facial appearance by creating a more uniform skin color and by smoothing the texture of the skin.

The hand piece quickly advances across the skin delivering pulses to the treatment site. A full-face treatment typically lasts anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. Smaller areas, such as the nose, can be treated in 15 minutes. In some cases a topical anesthetic cream is first applied to numb the treatment area. For a short period of time following treatment, a cold compress may be applied to soothe the possible appearance of slight swelling or redness of the skin. Treatments on the face, chest, neck, hands, legs and abdomen are all done safely and quickly with laser technology.

How many treatments are required?
During your consultation, your skin's condition will be evaluated and a customized treatment program will be suggested. In some cases only one or two treatments are required. However, in many cases three to five or more treatments will be required to achieve premium results. The number of treatment sessions will depend on the type of lesion to be treated, the location of the lesion on the body and its size and color. In many cases, it is recommended that treatments applied to the face be repeated at three to four week intervals. The time intervals of your treatments will be determined during the consultation, where many of these issues and concerns may be addressed.

Are there any side effects?
Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown pigmented spots may appear darker and capillaries may be more visible. You will learn more about side effects during your consultation.

PDT Acne
Stop the embarrassment of acne without messy creams, slow acting antibiotics, prescription medication, pain or interruption of your lifestyle. Finally, there is a safe and effective alternative to treating acne that also leaves your skin looking more youthful and rejuvenated. This clinical breakthrough has helped adults and teenagers win the battle against stubborn acne and has quickly become a frequently recommended alternative by dermatologists.

What Is Acne?
Acne is a disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin and affects over 80% of adolescents and many adults. During puberty, our bodies produce large amounts of an oily substance called sebum. Sebum, when combined with excess skin debris, sticks together in our pores causing the pore to become clogged. Without effective treatment, these clogged pores can become red, infected, swollen and form unsightly pimples that can lead to scarring. Topical creams can irritate the skin and take months to work. Antibiotics can have multiple side effects and become less effective over time.

What is PhotoDynamic Therapy?
PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT), also known as ALA/PDT, is a treatment performed with a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan® (five-aminolevulinic acid or ALA) that is applied to your skin and then activated with the correct wavelength of light. These treatments remove sun damaged precancerous spots called Actinic Keratoses. Treatments also improve sun damaged skin, fine lines, blotchy pigmentation and rough skin patches. PhotoDynamic Therapy treatment has the unique ability to minimize pores and reduce oil glands, effectively treating stubborn acne, Rosacea and improving the appearance of some acne scars.

How much improvement can I expect?
You will see improvement after each treatment. People with severe sun damaged skin, Actinic Keratoses, rough skin patches, poor skin texture and uneven pigmentation may see excellent results. Treatment improves the appearance of large pores and some acne scars. Active acne can improve dramatically.

How many treatments will I need?
To achieve maximum improvement for sun damage, texture and skin tone, a series of three or more treatments performed two to four weeks apart is often recommended. Some skin conditions respond with a single treatment. Additional treatments can be performed as needed or to maintain your desired result.

How is the procedure performed?
First, the area being treated will be cleansed and properly prepared for treatment. In some cases, microdermabrasion or an exfoliating scrub may be performed. The Levulan® is applied evenly to the area and may be left on the skin for several hours. Once removed, a variety of techniques may be used to correct your skin including Pulse Dye Laser and Laser Skin Rejuvenation. In some cases, a topical anesthetic is applied for added comfort.

What are the side effects?
The treated area can appear red and you may experience some peeling for up to seven days following treatment. Mild swelling can occur around the lip or eye area. If swelling occurs it is usually temporary and will subside within a day or two. Sensitive skin may appear very red for the first couple of days. Pigmentation spots can become temporarily darker and then will peel off, leaving the skin smooth and even toned. You will be advised to stay out of the sun and to consistently use a sun block. You will be photosensitive for several days and must protect the treated area.

PhotoRejuvenation
PhotoRejuvenation is a series of Pulsed Dye Laser treatments that improve the appearance of Rosacea, flushing, sun damaged skin, age spots, skin texture and photo-aging. The treatment also improves mild acne scars, reduces large pores, corrects dark circles around the eyes and reduces fine lines. This exciting treatment involves little or no "down time". You can resume normal activities immediately.

How does the treatment work?
A laser light is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat impairs the vessel or lesion and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or is absorbed by the body. Treatment can be given as frequently as every week depending on the laser used.

How many treatments will I need?
For optimal results, a series of four to six treatments are recommended.

What are the benefits of PhotoRejuvenation?

  • Treatment improves sun spots, age spots, dull complexions, uneven pigmentation, large pores, sun damaged skin and early signs of aging.
  • Treatment improves red flushing skin, Rosacea and broken capillaries.
  • Enjoy smoother skin with a more even tone.
  • Minimal discomfort during treatment.
  • Resume regular activities immediately.

What is a treatment like?
Treatment may vary from 15 to 45 minutes. First, the treated area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation of discomfort is minimal. After treatment, the gel is removed, the skin cleansed and a sunblock is applied. A topical anesthesia can be used for maximum comfort. For sensitive skin a cool compress is applied following treatment.

Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare. Immediately following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown pigmented spots may appear darker and capillaries may be more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur. Limiting sun exposure for several weeks before and after treatment will greatly minimize the risk of complications.

What improvement will I see?
Patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results. Many have seen 70% to 90% improvement. After successive treatments, the skin will feel smoother and appear to have a more even tone.

PhotoRejuvenation in treating Rosacea
As many as seventy million Americans have undesirable redness and/or sun damaged skin. Sun exposure, alcohol, medications, stress and aging often worsen the appearance of Rosacea. Rosacea is a common skin condition characterized by redness and flushing skin. PhotoRejuvenation treatments control flushing and, in many cases, reduces the need for topical cortisone creams and antibiotics.

Men and women alike share a common desire to have healthy, youthful skin. Exposure to the sun, to the elements and detrimental living habits, all contribute to the appearance of our skin today. Chemical peels have become very popular with those who are unhappy with acne scarring, sun damaged skin, age spots, freckles, fine lines, rough skin and uneven pigmentation. Unlike laser resurfacing procedures, Chemical peels are not limited to the face and can be performed on the neck, chest, hands, arms, shoulders and legs - just about anywhere!

Chemical peel
Chemical peels are topically applied acids that aid in the restoration and rejuvenation of the skin's surface. They create an even and controlled shedding of several layers of the skin. Depending on the type and depth of the peel, few or many layers can be shed allowing new layers to be exposed and creating a fresh new appearance. In addition, chemical peels stimulate the production of new cells, tighten and tone the skin and decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Enjoy fresh smooth skin!

What will my skin look and feel like immediately following?
The condition of the skin and healing times vary depending upon the strength of the peel performed. Chemical peels are classified as superficial, medium and deep peels.

Superficial peel
This peel is designed to help smooth rough, dry skin, improve the texture of sun damaged skin and even out skin tone. The recovery is generally rapid and usually consists of minor flaking. A series of treatments is generally recommended to obtain the desired result over a period of time. Typically there is no down time and with appropriate sun protection, you can resume regular activities immediately.

Medium peel
Medium peels often contain higher levels of strong acids. The best candidate for a medium peel is an individual with fair skin. Medium peels target the epidermis and upper dermis and cause the skin to slough within five to seven days. Immediately after treatment the skin has a red appearance and is occasionally accompanied by swelling. Within a day, the skin turns brown in color and after three to four days, the skin begins the peeling process.

Deep peels
Deep peels produce the most dramatic results. This peel is recommended for treating wrinkles, scars and blemishes and in some cases, precancerous skin lesions. A deep peel targets the dermis. In some cases, anesthesia is required during the procedure to reduce the warm to hot stinging sensation. There is little or no discomfort following the peel. After a deep peel, the area is swollen and red and can result in some swelling and blistering. A crust may form and the skin will turn brown just prior to peeling. Many layers of the skin will peel over a period of one to two weeks. An ointment may be given to keep the area moist. The new skin will have the color and sensation of significant sunburn, which will gradually fade to your normal skin color.

What are the side effects?
Chemical peels have become very popular because of their ease and relative lack of complications. Most people are usually very pleased with their results. Side effects are rare and usually temporary. Some side effects include uneven pigmentation, redness and even more rarely, scarring. Proper sun protection greatly minimizes the risk of side effects. A regular program of sunscreens, sun blocks and sun protection will greatly help your skin maintain the result of the peel. You can minimize side effects by carefully following the instructions of your physician, aesthetician and staff.

What are the benefits of a Chemical peel?
Patients benefit from chemical peels by greatly reducing blotchy and uneven pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, freckling, age spots, sun damaged skin and acne scars in a relatively short period of time and without going to a hospital.

Microdermabrasion
Men, women and teens all share a common desire to have healthy, youthful skin.
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, exfoliating treatment helpful for those unhappy with acne scarring, sun damaged skin, age spots, freckles, stretch marks, fine lines, scars and rough skin. Treatment can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, back, elbows and feet. Microdermabrasion is a safe, therapeutic approach to skin care when used alone, or in combination with other treatments.

What is treatment like?
Microdermabrasion is performed with a stream of fine crystals, which are delivered across the skin's surface and then removed via vacuum, uprooting the damaged cells to reveal fresh, invigorated skin.

What are the benefits of Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion Improves:
  • Skin Texture
  • Uneven Skin Color
  • Dull or Dry Patches
  • Acne and Acne Scarring
  • Rough, Thick or Dry Skin
  • Clogged Pores and Blackheads
  • Large Pores
  • Fine Lines
  • Sun Spots
  • Age Spots

What results can I expect?
Poor health, diet, aging, stress and the elements of nature can hinder the skin's cell renewal process. Microdermabrasion accelerates the cellular turnover process, bringing you closer to healthier, younger looking skin without the risks, side effects and down time of more aggressive alternatives. In as little as twenty minutes, this gentle, abrasive technique efficiently produces satisfying results. Improvements in appearance and texture will occur with successive treatments. Microdermabrasion can be used aggressively to achieve dramatic results, but does not take the place of surgical or laser treatments.

How many treatments will I need?
To achieve maximum results, several treatments are recommended, typically scheduled one or two weeks apart. You will experience a progressive improvement throughout your treatment program. Ask to schedule a consultation to determine the approximate number of treatments recommended for optimum effects.

How does my skin look immediately after treatment?
Microdermabrasion leaves your skin feeling soft and you will notice a healthy glow to your complexion. Due to the increase of circulation, a mild temporary blush surrounding the treated area may be the only evidence of your therapy.
